Mt. Hood

Mt. Hood

Rarely do you get a clear day with a snow covered Mt. Hood catching the light of a sunset. Usually in the winter the mountain is obscured by the clouds, and in the summer it just doesn’t stand out with a lack of snow. My buddy Hank is a resident at OHSU, the University Hospital atop the West Hills. He gets one day off a week and does everything in his power to stay clear of the hospital. Last Friday afternoon he finished his “on call” shift, which involves attending to screaming, itching, coughing, and unfortunately sometimes, dieing children in the Pediatric Emergency Room for nearly 24 straight hours. I then drug him back to this hospital to take this picture. I’m a great friend… Thanks Hank.

Fall Moon

Fall Moon

I’m sure you can tell from my past post that I have enjoyed taking some fall photos this year. This is an attempt at going outside the box to capture autumn. This maple tree is just outside our small grocery store down the road. During the day it almost goes unnoticed as all of the foliage around it is of similar color and hue. However, at night with the street lamp illuminating it from behind makes it appear to glow. It caught my eye the other night while I was walking out. I came back last Friday night to take a photo of it. This is actually two separate photos. The first photo of the maple tree was taken with my 18-55mm lens with the sutter open for 1.3 seconds. The second photo of the moon was taken with my 100-300mm lens for 1/10 of a second. The photos were combined in Photoshop to make the final image. To my credit, the moon was in place for the shot, that I didn’t change. However, having the shutter open for 1.3 seconds will give rich color in the tree and cause the moon to look very bright and hazy.  It was slightly windy that evening, so that is why the photo of the maple is a little blurred. I’m sure if I would have waited long enough I could have got a still shot, but it was getting cold and my beer was wearing off

Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Halloween!!!

My dog has a hyperactive bladder. I don’t blame her for it; she just loves people and can’t hold it if there is any in the storage tank. I will let everyone guess how last night went with goblins and ferries ringing the door bell every five minutes and screaming, “trick or treat”. At around 7:30 last night the kitchen floor resembled that of a men’s room at a baseball game…. We got the last laugh though.
